Our Story
The Second-Hand Dealers & Pawn Board (S.D.P.B.) has been the trusted voice of the Second-Hand Goods and
Pawn Trade
since its establishment in 1987, founded by Tom Johannes Fuhri. Dedicated to representing the interests of its
members, the
Organization actively
engages with Legislative Institutions, Conducts Research, and Fosters Industry Development.
Since 1999, the S.D.P.B. has played a pivotal role in shaping the Second-Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009,
contributing
extensively to research, negotiation, and Implementation of critical Regulations. It collaborates with
the Department
of Trade and Industry, the National Credit Regulator, Universities, Legal Experts, and the South African
Police Services,
to ensure fair and effective Industry standards.
Our commitment extends beyond advocacy. We have actively contributed to Crime Prevention Initiatives,
Developed
Compliance systems, and trained SAPS members in Crime Mitigation Strategies. As an Association, we
represent a wide
array of Second-Hand Goods Dealers, including General Dealers, Pawnbrokers, and Auctioneers.
The S.D.P.B. provides its members with essential Compliance tools, regularly updated documents, books and
Industry-Specific
registers that align with Legislative Requirements, ensuring businesses operate legally and ethically
within the Trade.
