Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I be a member of the S.D.P.B.?

A: S.D.P.B. advocate for the interests of their members and the industry as a whole. Being a member can give you a voice in discussions around Laws, Policies, and public perception of Second-Hand Goods.

S.D.P.B. often provide resources and training to help members stay up-to-date with trends, best practices, and Regulations in the Second-Hand Trade.

In South Africa, the sale of Second-Hand Goods is regulated by Laws such as the Second-Hand Goods Act, which requires businesses to register with the SAPS and keep records of transactions. S.D.P.B can help ensure its members comply with these regulations, reducing the risk of legal issues..

Q: How do I order books?

A: Send email to: sdpb-trp@pawnsecboard.co.za or call 018-297-3515

Q: How long does shipping take?

A: Books are shipped through courier, typically takes 3 - 7 business days.

Q: What is a SAP607 register book?

A: When a routine inspection is performed, the inspecting SAPS member must not only sign the dealer’s register in terms of section 28(4)(b)(i) of the Act, but also the SAPS 607 - Visitation Register: Second-Hand Goods Dealer, Recycler or Association Premises (“SAPS 607”), which is kept at the Dealer or Recycler premises. In cases where a dealer is exempted from keeping a register, or where such registers are kept electronically, the inspecting member must note such fact in the SAPS 607 when recording his/her inspection.

Q: Where do I get the SAP 607 - Visitation Register, and do I pay for it?

A: The Dealer can request a regsiter from the Second-Hand Designated Officer, or at the Police Station, free of charge.
